Chapter 1: Important informationWarning: Ensure safe navigationThis product is intended only as an aidto navigation and must never be usedin preference to sound navigationaljudgment. Only official governmentcharts and notices to mariners contain allthe current information needed for safenavigation, and the captain is responsiblefor their prudent use. It is the user’sresponsibility to use official governmentcharts, notices to mariners, caution andproper navigational skill when operatingthis or any other Raymarine product.Warning: Minimum Safe Depth,Beam and HeightDepending on cartography vendor, theminimum safe settings are used duringautomatic route generation, they are usedto restrict created routes from enteringwater that is not suitable for the vessel.Dataistakenfromcompatiblecartography.Minimum safe settings are user definedcalculations. As both of these factorsare outside of Raymarine’s control;Raymarine will not be held liable forany damage, physical or otherwise, resulting from the use of the automaticroute generation feature or the MinimumSafe Depth, Minimum Safe Beam orMinimum Safe Height settings.Warning: Automatic routegenerationRoutes created using automatic routegeneration rely on data taken fromcompatible electronic cartography anduser defined settings. As both of thesevalues are subjective the generatedroute MUST be carefully checked andif necessary edited BEFORE starting tofollow the route in the Chart application.Warning: Traffic separationAutomatic route generation featuresdo not adhere to the Traffic SeparationSchemes identified in Rule 10 of theInternational Regulations for PreventingCollisions at Sea 1972 as amended.Raymarine® therefore recommendsthat you do NOT use Automatic routegeneration to create any part of a routewhich will cross traffic lanes or passnear to traffic separation lines. In thesesituations Automatic route generationMUST be switched Off and the routeor route leg MUST be built manually, ensuring compliance to the rules laid outin the above regulations.Warning: Radar transmissionsafetyThe radar scanner transmitselectromagnetic energy. Ensure allpersonnel are clear of the scanner whenthe radar is transmitting.Warning: Sonar operation• NEVER operate the sonar with thevessel out of the water.• NEVER touch the transducer face whenthe sonar is powered on.• SWITCH OFF the sonar if divers arelikely to be within 7.6 m (25 ft) of thetransducer.Warning: Touchscreen displaytemperatureIf the display is mounted where it will beexposed to prolonged periods of directsunlight, the touchscreen may get veryhot due to the absorbed solar energy. In such conditions Raymarine highlyrecommends that you avoid using thetouchscreen:• For HybridTouch displays, use theintegrated keypad to operate thedisplay.• For touch-only systems it isrecommended that an externalkeypad is fitted to the system (forexample, the RMK-9 accessory).Warning: Touchscreen displayExposure to prolonged rain may causeerroneous touch performance, in thesesituations keep touch activity to aminimum and wipe the screen with adry non-abrasive cloth before using thetouchscreen.Caution: Care of chart and memorycardsTo avoid irreparable damage to and / orloss of data from chart and memory cards:• DO NOT save data or files to a cardcontaining cartography as the chartsmay be overwritten.• Ensure that chart and memory cardsare fitted the correct way around. DONOT try to force a card into position.• DO NOT use a metallic instrument suchas a screwdriver or pliers to insert orremove a chart or memory card.Important information 9
