SECTION C: Installation29The Raypak modulating temperature control is pro-vided to maintain the desired system water temperature. The control has various modes of operation which arelisted below.Operating ModesMode 1 – Setpoint operation using parallel piping. Theheater outlet water temperature is controlled to theboiler target setpoint.Mode 2 – Setpoint operation using primary / secondarypiping. The control modulates the heater to satisfy aremote header sensor. The heater is turned off based onboiler max and boiler differential (factory default H7boilers).Mode 3 – Dedicated DHW operation using parallelpiping. A call for heat is determined by the DHW sen-sor. The heater outlet water is controlled to the boilertarget temperature (factory default WH7 water heaters).Mode 4 – Outdoor reset and reset override operationusing parallel piping. The heater is operated as in Mode1. However the target temperature is based on outdoorreset. The outdoor reset temperature can be remotelyoverridden.Mode 5 – Outdoor reset and reset override operationusing primary/secondary piping. The heater is operatedas in Mode 2. However, the target temperature is basedon outdoor reset. The outdoor reset temperature can beremotely overridden.Mode 6 – This mode is used for remote control mode. The Boil Max setting is the heater shutdown tempera-ture.DefinitionsThe following items are common to Modes 1 thru 5.They are not required for Mode 6 – the mode for exter-nal heater control.% OUT - Current percent modulation rate of heaterBOIL DSGN - Design boiler water temperature usedin heat loss calculationsBOIL MASS - This setting allows adjustment in thefield for high or low thermal masses; High thermalmass (setting=3) provides slower reaction, lower ther-mal mass (setting=1) provides faster reactionBOIL MAX - Highest outlet water temperature thatthe control is allowed to use as a target temperatureBOIL MIN - Lowest outlet water temperature that thecontrol is allowed to use as a target temperatureBOIL ON - Accumulated runtime of heater (up to 999hours, then resets to 0)BOIL OUT - Actual heater outlet water temperatureBOIL START - Starting boiler water temperatureBOIL SUP - Actual system supply water temperatureBOIL TARGET - Target temperature that the heater istrying to maintain‘BURNER’ DELAY - Heater delay from the start ofthe ignition sequence until it firesDIFF - The operating differential of the heater; Theheater outlet water temperature is allowed to rise abovethe BOIL TARGET temperature by 1/2 of this differ-ential before the heater shuts offMODE - Operating mode of the heaterOUTDR - Outdoor air temperatureOUTDR DESIGN - Design outdoor air temperatureused in the heat loss calculationOUTDR START - Starting outdoor air temperaturePUMP DLY - Sets the operating time of the pumponce the CFH is satisfiedTANK - Current DHW tank temperature (Mode 3)TANK DIFF - Storage tank differential (Mode 3)TANK TARGET - Target temperature in the DHWstorage tank (Mode 3)UNITS - Selects the temperature units to be displayed( oF or oC). For example, if the heater target temperatureis set to 160°F and the differential is set to 10°F, ontemperature rise, the heater will shut off at 165 oF.Once the heater shuts off, it will not come on againuntil the temperature falls to 155 oF.WWSD - Selects the outdoor temperature that shutsthe heater off, no matter what the demand. NOTE: TheWWSD segment is displayed on the LCD.OperationThe Raypak modulating temperature control uses aLiquid Crystal Display (LCD) as a method of supply-ing information. The LCD is used to setup and monitor
