This will reduce, butnot eliminate, the risk ofvapors being ignited by themain burner or pilot flame.Read and follow water heater warnings and instructions. If ownersmanual is missing, contact the retailer or manufacturer.DANGER: Failure to install the draft hood andproperly vent the water heater to the outdoors asoutlined in the Venting section of this manual canresult in unsafe operation of the water heater. Toavoid the risk of fire, explosion, or asphyxiation fromcarbon monoxide, never operate this water heaterunless it is properly vented and has an adequate airsupply for proper operation. Be sure to inspect thevent system for proper installation at initial start-up;and at least annually thereafter. Refer to theMaintenance section of this manual for moreinformation regarding vent system inspections.DANGER: Water heaters utilizing propane gas aredifferent from natural gas models. A natural gasheater will not function safely on propane gas andvice versa. Conversion from Natural gas to propanegas (or vice versa) must be done by a qualifiedservice technician. To avoid possible equipmentdamage, personal injury or fire: DO NOT connectthis water heater to a fuel type not in accordancewith unit data plate. Propane for propane units,Natural gas for natural gas units. These units are notcertified for any other type fuel.DANGER: PROPANE MODELS: Propane gas mustbe used with great caution.• It is heavier than air and will collect first in lowerareas making it hard to detect at nose level.• Make sure to look and smell for propane leaksbefore attempting to light appliance. Use a soapysolution to check all gas fittings and connections.Bubbling at a connection indicates a leak that mustbe corrected. When smelling to detect an propaneleak, be sure to sniff near the floor too.• Gas detectors are recommended in propane appli-cations and their installation should be inaccordance with the manufacturer's recommenda-tions and/or local laws, rules, regulations orcustoms.• It is recommended that more than one method beused to detect leaks in propane applications.WARNING: Propane appliances should not beinstalled below-grade (for example, in a basement) ifsuch installation is prohibited by federal, state and/orlocal laws, rules, regulations or customs.
