Thiscan be normally accomplished by opening a down-stream valve.Venting System Inspection1. Check all vent pipe connections and flue pipe ma-terial.2. Make sure vent terminations are installed per codeand are clear of all debris or blockage.For Your SafetyThis appliance has a direct spark igniter. Be sure to smell near the floor becausesome gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS:• Do not try to light any appliance.• Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use anytelephone in your building.• Immediately call your gas supplier from a neigh-bor’s telephone. Follow the gas supplier’sinstructions.• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the firedepartment.• Use only your hand to close the gas supply shut-off valve outside the heater. Never use tools. If theknob will not turn by hand, do not try to repair it,call a qualified service technician. Forced orattempted repair may result in a fire or explosion.• Do not use this appliance if any part has beenunder water, immediately call a qualified servicetechnician to inspect the appliance and to replaceany part of the control system and any gas controlwhich has been under water.• Check around unit for debris and remove com-bustible products, i.e. gasoline, etc.Pre Start-up Check1. Verify the heater is filled with water.2. Check system piping for leaks. If found, repairimmediately.3. Vent air from system. Air in system can interferewith water circulation.4. Purge air from gas line to boiler.Initial Start-upRequired tools• (1) 12-0-12 (24” scale) U-tube manometer• (2) 6-0-6 (12” scale) U-tube manometer• Screwdrivers (assorted sizes and shapes)• (1) Crescent wrench (8” or 10”)• (1) Multi-meter(Metric Allen wrenches will be required for servicingthe gas valve, but not during start-up)NOTE: Digital manometers are not recommended.CAUTION: An air vent should be installed at thehighest point in the system for proper operation. Ifwater piping is located higher than the boiler, itshould be relocated to the highest point in theinstalled system.NOTE: The wiring diagrams in this manual show allstandard options. Refer to the large wiring diagramprovided with your boiler for options installed on yourspecific unit(s).45
