It is important that youunderstand what causes blade thrust, how you can reduce the chance ofblade thrust and how you can remain incontrol of the unit if blade thrust doesoccur.1. What causes blade thrust:• Blade thrust can occur when themoving blade contacts an object that itcannot cut. This contact causes theblade to stop for an instant and thensuddenly move or ”bounce” away fromthe object that was hit. The operatorcan lose control of the unit and theblade can cause serious personal injuryto the operator or any person nearby ifthe blade contacts any part of the body.2. How you can reduce the chance of bladethrust:a. Recognize that blade thrust canhappen. By understanding andknowing about bounce, you canhelp eliminate the element ofsurprise.b. Cut fibrous weeds and grassonly. Do not let the blade contactmaterials it cannot cut such as hard, woody vines and brush or rocks, fences, metal, etcc. Be extra prepared for blade thrust ifyou must cut where you cannot seethe blade making contact such as inareas of dense growth.WARNINGWARNING
