(3.45 kPa).INSTALLATION INTO A SOLID FUELBURNING FIREPLACE OR FACTORYBUILT FIREPLACEThe E33 Gas Inserts have been tested and ap-proved to be vented into any masonry fireplace orapproved solid fuel burning factory built fireplace thatwill allow the insert to physically fit into the firebox.Refer to "Minimum Fireplace Dimensions" sectionfor minimum fireplace clearances.If the factory built fireplace* height is too low foryour Insert, you may remove the smoke baffleplate, damper, refractory (firebricks), glass doors,screen rails, screen mesh and log grates from thefactory built fireplace as long as these items aresaved and are reinstalled in the event that the Insertis removed. The fireplace flue damper can be fullyblocked open or removed for installation of the gasfireplace insert.Smoke shelves, shields and baffles may be removedif attached by mechanical fasteners. If any part isremoved it must not weaken the structural integrityof the factory built fireplace.The fireplace and fireplace chimney must be cleanand in good working order and constructed of non-combustible materials.The surround panels should not seal ventilationopenings on the fireplace.Chimney clean outs should fit properly.NOTE: Any alterations made to the listed solid fuelburning factory built fireplace may void the listingof the fireplace.Cutting any sheet metal part of the fireplace, inwhich the gas fireplace insert is to be installed isprohibited.*Check with your local inspector before commencingwith this installation.Installer must mechanically attach the suppliedlabel to the inside of the firebox of the fireplace intowhich the gas fireplace insert is installed."WARNING: This fireplace has been convertedfor use with a gas fireplace insert only and cannotbe used for burning wood or solid fuels unless alloriginal parts have been replaced, and the fireplacere-approved by the authority having jurisdiction."FACTORY-BUILT (METAL) WOOD-BURNING FIREPLACEREQUIREMENTSNOTE: Any parts that are removed must be removedin a way that would allow them to be re-installed ifthe insert is ever removed (removal of rivets orscrews is acceptable).To reference parts—see illustration below.Must be removed:1 -Damper2- Grate (with log set)May be removed (if applicable):3- Smoke shelf4- Internal baffles5 - Screen6 & 7 - Masonry lining or refractory8 - Metal or glass doorsThe fireplace must be permanently marked toindicate that it has been altered and is no longersuitable for burning solid fuel (wood), unless theremoved parts are re-installed. Cutting of any sheetmetal parts is prohibited.May be removed (in certain cases):9 -Metal floor of the firebox10 - The insulation and any structured rigid framemembers must not be removed or altered (side andtop of door frame, side and top of the face of thefireplace, metal sides, etc.).If the factory-built fireplace has no gas accesshole(s) provided, an access hole of 1.5 inch (37.5mm) or less may be drilled through the lower sidesor bottom of the firebox in a proper workmanshiplike manner. This access hole must be pluggedwith non-combustible insulation after the gassupply line has been installed.CAUTION:Firebox floor removal is not covered under theappliance safety standard (ANSI Z21.88, CSA2.33) used in the safety certification of this ap-pliance. The Intertek safety certification doesnot apply to this method of installation. Beforeinstalling the appliance using this method, contactthe Authority Having Jurisdiction to determine ifthis installation is acceptable in your area. Thesheet metal base of the fireplace must be left inplace and a minimum 1/2" cement board sheetplaced under the entire length and width of theappliance.
