Threemethods of flue connection are acceptable inmost areas in the US, however a full flue lineris required in Canada.1) Positive flue connection, where a largeblocking plate and a short connector pipeis used.2) Direct flue connection, where a smallerblocking plate and a connector pipe to thefirst flue liner tile is used.3) Full flue liner, where a stainless steel rigidor flexible liner pipe is routed from the insertoutlet collar to the top of the chimney.Regency highly recommends the use of a fullliner as the safest installation and provides themost optimum performance. The greater draft candecrease problems such as, difficult start-ups,smoking out the door, and dirty glass.STEP-BY-STEPINSTALLATION INTO AFACTORY BUILTFIREPLACE1) When installed in a factory built fireplace, afull stainless steel rigid or flexible flue lineris mandatory, for both safety and perform-ance purposes. When a flue or liner is inuse, the insert is able to breathe better byallowing a greater draft to be created. Thegreater draft can decrease problems suchas, difficult start-ups, smoking out the door,and dirty glass.2) In order to position the flue liner, the exist-ing rain cap must be removed from yourchimney system. In most cases the fluedamper should also be removed to allowpassage of the liner.3) In most cases opening the existing sparkscreens fully should give enough room forthe insert installation. If it does not, removeand store.4) If the floor of your fireplace is below thelevel of the fireplace opening, adjust theinsert's levelling bolts to accommodate thedifference. When additional shimming isrequired, use non-combustible masonry orsteel shims.5) Measure approximately the alignment ofthe flue liner with the position of the smokeoutlet hole on the insert to check for pos-sible offset. If an offset is required, use aproper stainless steel unit available with thechimney liner.6) Once the above items have been checked,slide your insert into position after first po-sitioning the flue liner and offset if required.(Re-install raincap at completion of installa-tion).NOTE: Refer to "Requirements for InstallingSolid-fuel Inserts in Factory-built Fire-places" section for the requirementsfor installing solid fuel inserts in factorybuilt fi replaces.
