Regency ® P33-4 Zero Clearance Direct Vent Gas Fireplace 31INSTALLATIONRiser VentTerminationMin. 6-1/4"*(159mm)Diagram 3UNIT INSTALLATION WITH HORIZONTAL TERMINATIONDiagram 1b) Horizontal runs of vent must besupported every three feet. Wall strapsare available for this purpose.5) Mark the wall for a 10" x 10" square hole. The center of the square hole should lineup with the centerline of the horizontal pipe.Cut and frame the 10 inch square hole inthe exterior wall where the vent will beterminated. If the wall being penetrated isconstructed of non-combustible material, i.e.masonry block or concrete, a 7"(178mm)diameter (7-1/2"(191mm) dia. for flex) holeis acceptable.Note:a) The horizontal run of vent must be level,or have a 1/4 inch rise for every 1 footof run towards the termination. Neverallow the vent to run downward. Thiscould cause high temperatures and maypresent the possibility of a fire.b) The location of the horizontal venttermination on an exterior wall must meetall local and national building codes, and must not be blocked or obstructed.See "Exterior Vent Terminal Locations"Section.c) Snorkel Terminations:For installations requiring a vertical riseon the exterior of the building, 14-inchand 36-inch tall Snorkel Terminationsand the Riser Vent as shown inDia. 2 & 2a are available. Follow thesame installation procedures as usedfor standard Horizontal Termination.NEVER install the snorkel upsidedown.*As specified in CGA B149 Installation Code.Local codes or regulations may require differentclearances.Diagram 2Below Grade Snorkel InstallationIf the Snorkel Termination must beinstalled below grade, i.e. basementapplication, proper drainage must beprovided to prevent water from enteringthe Snorkel Termination. Refer toDura-Vent Installation instructions fordetails. Do not attempt to enclose theSnorkel within the wall, or any othertype of enclosure.6) The arrow on the vent cap shouldbe pointing up. Insure that the 1-1/2"clearances to combustible materials aremaintained (Dia. 3). Install the terminationcap. AstroCapTM or Dura-Vent HorizontalTermination Cap may be used.Diagram 2aInstall the vent system according to themanufacturer's instructions included with thecomponents.1) Set the unit in its desired location. Checkto determine if wall studs or roof raftersare in the way when the venting system isattached. If this is the case, you may wantto adjust the location of the unit. Rough inthe gas preferably on the right side of theunit and the electrical (junction block is onthe left side) on the left.2) Direct Vent pipe and fittings are designedwith special twist-lock connections toconnect the venting system to the applianceflue outlet. A twist-lock appliance adaptoris an available option that must be used inconjunction with the Simpson Dura-VentDirect Vent system.3) Put a bead of silicone inside the outer sectionof the adapter and a bead of Fireplace Mateon the inner collar. Slip the adapter over theexisting inner and outer flue collar and fastento the outer collar only with the 3 suppliedscrews (drilling pilot holes will make thiseasier). Level the fireplace and fasten it tothe framing using nails or screws throughthe nailing strips.4) Assemble the desired combination of pipeand elbows to the appliance adaptor andtwist-lock for a solid connection.Note:a) Twist-lock procedure: Four indentations, located on the female ends of pipes andfittings, are designed to slide straightonto the male ends of adjacent pipesand fittings, by orienting the four pipeindentations so they match and slidein to the four entry slots on the maleends, Dia. 1. Push the pipe sectionscompletely together, then twist-lockone section clockwise approximatelyone-quarter turn, until the two sectionsare fully locked. The female locking lugswill not be visible from the outside, onthe Black Pipe or fittings. They may belocated by examining the inside of thefemale ends.NOTE: For best results and optimumperformance with each approved ventingsystem, it is highly recommended to apply“Mill-Pac” sealant (supplied) to every in-ner pipe connection. Failure to do so mayresult in drafting or performance issues notcovered under warranty. Silicone (red RTV)is optional. The four wood screws provided shouldbe replaced with appropriate fasteners forstucco, brick, concrete, or other types ofsidings.Note: If installing termination on a sidingcovered wall, a vinyl siding standoffor furring strips must be used toensure that the termination is notrecessed into the siding.7) Before connecting the horizontal run of ventpipe to the vent termination, slide the WallThimble (Part # 620-926) over the ventpipe.
