13EnglishConnection to an Audio System (2 Channel Amplifier)1Using the audio cables, connect the AUDIO (red andwhite) OUT terminals on the rear of the DVD player to theAUDIO (red and white) IN terminals of the Amplifier.2Using the video signal cable(s), connect the VIDEO orCOMPONENT OUT terminals on the rear of the DVD play-er to the VIDEO or COMPONENT IN terminal of your TV asdescribed on pages 9 to 12.3Turn on the DVD player, TV, and Amplifier.4Press the input select button of the Amplifier to selectexternal input in order to hear sound from the DVD player.Note- Please turn the volume down when you turn on the Amplifier. Sudden loud sound may causedamage to the speakers and your ears.- Please set the audio in the menu screen according to the Amplifier. (See pages 26 to 27)- The position of terminals can vary depending on the Amplifier.Please refer to the user's manual of the Amplifier.• HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)HDMI is an interface to enable the digital transmissionof video and audio data with just a single connector.Using HDMI, the DVD player transmits a digital videoand audio signal and displays a vivid picture on a TVhaving an HDMI input jack.• HDMI connection descriptionHDMI connector - Both uncompressed video data anddigital audio data (LPCM or Bit Stream data).- Though the player uses a HDMI cable, the playeroutputs only a pure digital signal to the TV.- If TV does not support HDCP (High-bandwidthDigital content protection), snow noise appears onthe screen.• Why does Samsung use HDMI?Analog TVs require an analog video/audio signal.However, when playing a DVD, the data transmittedto a TV is digital. Therefore either a digital-to-analogconverter (in the DVD player) or an analog-to-digitalconverter (in the TV) is required. During this conver-sion, the picture quality is degraded due to noise andsignal loss. DVI technology is superior because itrequires no D/A conversion and is a pure digital sig-nal from the player to your TV.• What is the HDCP?HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) isa system for protecting DVD content outputted viaDVI from being copied. It provides a secure digitallink between a video source (PC, DVD. etc) and adisplay device (TV, projector . etc).
