Getting Started20Your Phone’s ModesStandby ModeStandby is the most basic state of your phone.The phone goes into Standby mode soon after youturn it on, or whenever you briefly press .When your phone is in Standby mode, you willtypically see a wallpaper or banner message andthe current date and time. If you enter a phonenumber, you can press to dial it, or press theSave soft key to save it in the internal PhoneBook.Press at any time to return to Standby mode.Be careful; if you are on a call when you press thekey, your phone disconnects the call andreturns to Standby mode.Menu mode can be accessed when you are inStandby mode.Talk ModeYou can place and answer calls only when yourphone is turned on. During a call, the phone is inthe Talk mode. While you are in Talk mode,pressing the Menu soft key gives you a list ofoptions. See page 30 for details on the options.Getting Started21Key Guard ModeYou can lock the keypad by pressing and holdingin Standby mode. By doing this, you canprevent accidental key pressing.To unlock the keypad, press and then . TheLock icon ( ) displays in the soft key indicatorfield.When you have an incoming call or an alarmoccurs in Key Guard mode, the mode isautomatically deactivated and the phone goes toStandby mode.Note:• You can set the phone to automatically lock thekeypad after a specified period of time, in the KeyGuard menu (Menu 7-2-2). See page 92.• In Key Guard mode, you cannot make anemergency call. You should unlock the keypadbefore making a call.Lock ModeWhen you lock your phone using the Lock Modemenu (Menu 7-3-1), you can receive messagesand calls, but you cannot place a call until youunlock the phone.Once the phone is locked, it is in restricted modeuntil the lock code is entered. Press soft key,Unlock then enter 4 digit password. The lock codepassword by default is 0000.In case you have changed the password and areunable to remember the new password.
