Entering Text 94Section 5: Entering TextThis section describes how to select the desired text input methodwhen entering characters into your phone. This section alsodescribes the predictive text entry system that reduces theamount of key strokes associated with entering text.Your phone comes equipped with an orientation detector that cantell if the device is being held in an upright (Portrait) or sideways(Landscape) orientation. This is useful when entering text.Your device also provides several on-screen keyboard text entryoptions to make the task of text entry that much easier.Text Input MethodsThere are three text input methods available:• Google voice typing: provides a voice to text interface.• Samsung keyboard: an on-screen QWERTY keyboard thatcan be used in both portrait and landscape orientation.• Swype (default): a new way to enter text on touch screens.Instead of tapping each key, use your finger to trace overeach letter of a word.The on-screen QWERTY keyword works the same in bothportrait and landscape mode.Selecting the Text Input MethodThe Text Input Method can be assigned from within one oftwo locations:Settings Menu: Press ➔ and then tap Settings ➔ Languageand input ➔ Default and select an input method.Text Input field:1. From a screen where you can enter text, in a singlemotion, touch and drag the Status bar down to the bottomof the screen to reveal the Notifications panel .2.
