44Section 5Changing the Text Entry ModeWhen using your phone, you will often need to enter text,such as when storing a name in the Address Book,creating your personal greeting or scheduling events onyour calendar. You can enter alphanumeric characters byusing your phone’s keypad.Your phone has the following text input modes:ABC modeThis mode allows you to enter letters by pressing the keylabeled with the letter you want. Press the key once, twice,three, or four times until it displays.T9 modeThis mode allows you to enter words with only onekeystroke per letter. Each key on the keypad has morethan one letter; for example, pressing the 5 key can enterJ, K, or L. However, the T9 mode automatically comparesthe series of keystrokes you make with an internallinguistic dictionary to determine the most likely word,thus requiring far fewer keystrokes than the traditionalAlphabet mode.Symbol modeThis mode allows you to enter symbols, such aspunctuation marks.Number modeThis mode allows you to enter numbers.
