24Basic OperationConnect the projector’s AC power cord into an ACoutlet. The POWER indicator lights red.Press the ON/STAND-BY button on the top control orthe ON button on the remote control. The POWERindicator turns green and the cooling fans start tooperate. The preparation display appears on the screenand the count down starts.231 16The preparation display will disappearafter 20 seconds.4 After the countdown, the input source that wasselected the last time and the lamp control and statusicons (see pages 54,66) appear on the screen.If the projector is locked with a PIN code, PIN codeinput dialog box will appear. Enter the PIN code asinstructed below.Selected Input Source and Lamp ControlComplete peripheral connections (with a computer,VCR, etc.) before turning on the projector.Lamp controlWhat is PIN code?PIN (Personal Identification Number) code is a securitycode that allows the person who knows it to operate theprojector. Setting a PIN code prevents unauthorized use ofthe projector.A PIN code consists of a four-digit number. Refer to thePIN code lock function in the Setting Menu on page 60 forlocking operation of the projector with your PIN code.After the OK icon disappears,you can operate the projector.PIN Code Input Dialog BoxTurning On the ProjectorEnter a PIN codeCAUTION ON HANDLING PIN CODEIf you forget your PIN code, the projectorcan no longer be started. Take a specialcare in setting a new PIN code; write downthe number in a column on page 87 of thismanual and keep it on hand. Should thePIN code be missing or forgotten, consultyour dealer or service center.✔Notes:• When the Logo select function is set to “Off,”the logo will not be shown on the screen (p.49)• When the “Countdown off” or “Off” is selectedin the Display function, the countdown will notbe shown on the screen (p.56).• During the countdown period, all operationsare invalid.• If the OK icon does not appear within threeminutes after the PIN code dialog boxappeared, the projector will be turned offautomatically.• The “1234” is set as the initial PIN code at thefactory.See pages 54,66 for the Lamp control and status.✔Note:• The Filter warning and Lamp replacementicons may appear on the screen dependingon the usage state of the projector.Use the Point ed buttons on the top control or Numberbuttons on the remote control to enter a number.Use the Point ed buttons on the top control to select anumber. Press the Point 8 button to fix the number andmove the red frame pointer to the next box. The numberchanges to “✳.” Repeat this step to complete enteringa four-digit number. After entering the four-digit number,move the pointer to “Set.” Press the SELECT button sothat you start to operate the projector.Press the Number buttons on the remote control to entera number (p.15). When you complete entering a four-digitnumber, the pointer moves to “Set.” Press the SELECTbutton so that you can start to operate the projector.If you fixed an incorrect number, use the Point 7 button tomove the pointer to the number you want to correct, andthen enter the correct number.If you entered an incorrect PIN code, “PIN code” and thenumber (✳✳✳✳) will turn red for a moment.
