D100-101-00 2 I56-2806-003RTestingBefore testing, notify the proper authorities that the smokedetector system is undergoing maintenance and will tempo-rarily be out of service. Disable the zone or system under-going maintenance to prevent unwanted alarms. Detectorsmust be tested after installation and as part of periodicmaintenance. Test 2151 and 2151T as follows:NOTE: Before testing the detector, check to ensure theLEDs blink. If they do not, the detector has lost power(check the wiring), it is defective (return it for repair), orthe detector sensitivity is outside the listed limits.A. Test Magnet (p/n M02-04-01 or M02-09-00)1. Place the magnet against the cover in the locationdesignated by the raised mark to activate the test fea-ture (see Figure 1).2. The LEDs should latch ON within 5 seconds indicat-ing alarm and annunciating the panel.LED StatusIndicatorsMagnet TestMarkerTest MagnetPositionTest MagnetPositionMagnet TestMarkerSENS-RDRLocationFigure 1. Please refer to the SENS-RDR instruction manual for operating details.C. Aerosol Generator (Gemini 501)Set the generator to represent 4% to 5%/ft. obscurationas described in the Gemini 501 Manual. Using the bowl-shaped applicator, apply aerosol until unit alarms.D. Direct Heat Method (Hair Dryer of 1000-1500 watts)2151T onlyA hair dryer of 1000-1500 watts should be used to testthe thermistors. Direct the heat toward either of the twothermistors, holding the heat source approximately 12inches from the detector in order to avoid damaging theplastic housing. The detector will reset only after it hashad sufficient time to cool. Make sure both thermistorsare tested individually.Notify the proper authorities that the system is back on line.Detectors that fail these tests should be cleaned as describedunder MAINTENANCE and retested. If the detectors stillfail these tests, they should be returned for repair.C0145-01CAUTIONDust covers are an effective way to limit the entry of dustinto smoke detector sensing chambers. However, they maynot completely prevent airborne dust particles from enter-ing the detector. Therefore, System Sensor recommends theremoval of detectors before beginning construction or otherdust producing activity.Be sure to remove the dust covers from any sensors thatwere left in place during construction as part of returningthe system to service.CAUTIONSmoke detectors are not to be used with detector guardsunless the combination has been evaluated and foundsuitable for that purpose.
