9100A/9200A/9400Introduction and Operating Instructions 2-9If specified at the time of purchase, the instrument will be suppliedwith the switch set to the required voltage level however, it isalways considered good practice to check the setting beforeconnecting the instrument to the wall socket.Mains Fuse The Mains fuse protects the mains input voltage from over currentand overload conditions. Fuse rating is specified in the manual andinstructions how to replace the fuse are given in Chapter 1. Alwaysreplace the fuse with the same type and rating as specified in themanual.Note that there are two types of fuses used for various mainsvoltage settings. Therefore, to avoid blowing fuses, always checkthat your AC voltage selector switch is set to the appropriatevoltage setting before connecting the instrument to the wall socket.Unipolar ModeSelectorThe unipolar mode selector switch selects between two basicoperating modes, normal and unipolar. Information on these modesis given in the following. The Model 9400 is operating in normalmode when the switch is set to its outside position. The instrumentis operating in unipolar mode when the switch is pushed in and thefront panel Unipolar indicator illuminates.Output MonitorConnectorsThe output monitor connectors duplicate the signal at the frontpanel output connectors except the output signal is divided by 100.These outputs are used for monitoring the output signal with lowvoltage sensors. The bandwidth of the output monitor connectors is the same asspecified for the main output connectors. There are fourconnectors, designated as Channel 1 through 4, one for eachoutput channel.GroundingConsiderationsUnderstanding how to connect your ground path could be critical topreserving the integrity of your output signal. If you are using asingle-ended output then it will probably be safe for you to connectthe circuit ground to case ground. However, in applicationsrequiring floated ground connection, it is imperative that theamplifier ground be made floating as well. Since the model 9400has its signal ground always connected to the case ground, it isrecommended that you consult the factory for a special version of
