A device for converting an analog signal to adigital signal that represents the same information.AMBE+2™ Advanced Multiband Excitation. A voice compression technology patentedby Digital Voice Systems, Inc and used in the vocoders of P25 radios.ANI Automatic Number Identification. A service that provides the receiver of acall with a numerical identifier or alphanumeric label of the caller.APCO The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials in the UnitedStates. The APCO Project 25 standards committee defined the P25 digitalradio standard. The standard is often referred to as APCO or P25.ARP Address Resolution Protocol is an IP protocol used to map IP networkaddresses to the hardware addresses used by a data link protocol.base station A radio receiver and transmitter that is located in a specific place (at a site)that enables a two-way radio to communicate with a dispatcher or over alarger range with other two-way radios. Specifically, Tait TB9400equipment in a subrack.battery protectionmode A PMU enters battery protection mode when it has AC power but its DCpower is below the configured power shutdown voltage. In batteryprotection mode, the PMU will shut down to protect the battery if it losesAC power.bearer network Telecom equipment that is used to carry user data.BER Bit Error Rate. A measure of the quality of digital transmission, expressedas a percentage. The BER indicates the proportion of errors to correctlyreceived digits in a received signal.
