26 TASCAM BB-1000CD/BB-8004 Press the HOME key to return to the Home screen.NOTEWhen recording in monaural, the same signal is recordedto both left and right channels as a stereo file.Using the limiter functionDuring a live performance, for example, loud noises couldbe input unexpectedly. By using the limiter function, audioclipping can be avoided and recordings made withoutdistortion.1 Set the AUTO/LIMITER switch on the left side panelto ON.2 Press the INPUT key to open the INPUT screen.3 Use the CURSOR [§/¶] keys to select the LIMITERitem.4 Use the DATA wheel to choose one of the followingoptions.• LIMITERThe input gain changes automatically according to theinput signal level to prevent distortion caused by exces-sively loud sounds.• AGC HIGH/AGC LOWThe input gain changes automatically according to theinput signal level to make both loud and quiet soundsthe same level. This is useful when recording peoplespeaking, such as during meetings.Select AGC HIGH when the input level is low and AGCLOW when it is high.CAUTIONWhen using AGC, the FRONT MIC/EXT MIC and REARMIC/LINE knobs cannot be used to adjust input levels.5 Press the HOME key to return to the Home screen.Using the automatic recording functionFrom recording standby, the unit can start and stoprecording automatically in response to input signal levels.1 Press the STOP key to stop the unit.2 Press the HOME key to open the Home screen.3 Press the MENU key to open the MENU screen.4 Use the DATA wheel or CURSOR [§/¶] keys to selectREC SETTING, and press the ENTER key.The REC SETTING screen opens.5 Make settings for the following four items. Use theCURSOR [§/¶] keys to select the items, and use theDATA wheel to make settings.AUTO LEVELSet the signal level at which recording starts and stopsautomatically. Choose -48 dB, -24 dB, -12 dB or -6 dB.Lower numbers make recording start at smaller inputvolumes. In other words, -48 dB is the most sensitivesetting, which will start recording at the lowest inputvolume.4 – Recording
