6 - SpecificationsTASCAM DA-40 316.4 Dimensional drawing6.5 Error messagesThere are two types of error message: warning(informational) and more serious messages.6.5.1 Warning messagesThese simply give an indication of a situation whichis easily resolved:AES/EBU X—The digital audio signal receivedat the AES/EBU input has been selected as an inputsource, but has become unsynchronized or is notpresent.COAXIAL X—The digital audio signal receivedat the COAXIAL unbalanced input has been selectedas an input source, but has become unsynchronizedor is not present.AES/EBU ?—The digital audio signal receivedat the AES/EBU balanced input is more than 0.1%outside the standard sampling frequency and cannotbe recorded (though it can be monitored).COAXIAL ?—The digital audio signal receivedat the COAXIAL unbalanced input is more than0.1% outside the standard sampling frequency andcannot be recorded (though it can be monitored).Tape Top & Tape End—The tape is atthe start or end, and an attempt has been made tomove past this pointEnd-ID—The presence of the END ID preventsthe attempted operationTapeMode HR—The inserted tape has beenrecorded in 24-bit mode on a TASCAM DA-45HRmachine, or the inserted tape is not intended for theDA-40. If this message appears, the inserted tapecannot be played back on the DA-40.RecProtect—The cassette’s sliding write-protect tab is in the write-protect position.6.5.2 Serious error messagesAny of the following error messages indicates a seri-ous error, which you should never see in normaloperation. If any of these appears, first try any coun-termeasures listed here. If the message does not dis-appear after trying the countermeasure, you shouldcontact your TASCAM distributor for testing andrepair of your tape deck.DSP Com. Err.Mecha. Com. Er.Loading Err—Eject the tape, power downthe tape deck, power it up again, and reinsert the tapeas described in 1.4, "About DAT cassettes". If thisfails, contact your TASCAM dealer.Drum Error—Condensation may haveoccurred on the head drum. Remove the cassette, andleave the tape deck switched on for one or two hours.See the warning note in 1.3, "Installation of the tapedeck"Capstan ErrorSVMemo.RDESVMemo.WRETape Cut!—The tape has broken. You maybe able to remove the damaged cassette, but this isusually best left to a qualified service technician, asthe tape may be wound in a complex path around del-icate mechanical parts of the tape deck.Memo.Data Er—The memorized menu set-tings (3.13, "Parameter save") are no longer stored inmemory. Try re-making these settings. If the problempersists, contact your TASCAM dealer.
