28 TASCAM Pocketstudio 5 Reference Manual6 – Advanced options and operationsChoosing the meter displayYou can choose between four different styles ofmeter shown on the screen: short/slim(ShrtSlim), long/slim (LongSlim), short/fat (ShrtFat) or long/fat (LongFat).1 From the system menu, move to theMeter: option:2 Use the wheel to select the meter type to bedisplayed on the home screen.Choosing the time typeDepending on your preference, the time can be dis-played in minutes, seconds and frames (there areeither 38 or 39 frames in a second) or in measures(bars) and beats.1 From the system menu, move to the Time:option:2 Use the wheel to change between the minutesand seconds, and the bars and beats display. When you make the change, either the wordABS (for “absolute time”) or BAR/BEAT(bars & beats) shows on the screen.NOTEThe bars and beats display is not a “magic” indicator. Ifyou are not playing in time with the MIDI tone genera-tor, there is no way for the Pocketstudio 5 to know any-thing about the musical tempo or structure of yourmusic.Songs on the Pocketstudio 5 always start at 00:00:00(minutes, seconds and frames) or at 001-01 (bars andbeats).NOTEBecause of the slightly uneven nature of the internaltiming, you may sometimes find that the bars/beatsmeasurement is not as precise (to small fractions of asecond) as the ABS timing. However, it remains a veryuseful way in which to jump around quickly within thesong’s structure.Reducing input noiseYou may notice, especially with some of the guitar-based input effects, that you can hear a certainamount of noise as the effect amplifies any stringnoise, pickup noise, etc. Typically, when you play theinstrument, the sound of the instrument will cover thenoise of the effect, but in quiet passages, this can beannoying. The Pocketstudio 5 therefore provides noise suppres-sors for both inputs, so that any background noisewill be suppressed. Any sounds which go over thelevel set for the suppressor will be passed through.1 From the home screen, press MENU, andenter the SYSTEM menu.2 Use the cursor keys to move to the bottom ofthe menu:3 The two noise suppressors for inputs A andB, NspA and NspB, are at the bottom ofthe screen. Use the wheel to change the levelfrom OFF (equivalent to 0) through to 60.At the OFF setting, all signals (together with thenoise) are passed through. At the high settings, onlyrelatively loud sounds are passed through the sup-pressor.If your song includes quiet passages, you may not beable to hear these quiet parts if you make this settingtoo high.T g M o d e : P a t t e r nT e m p o : - - - - - - - - -T i m e : A B SM e t e r / S h r t S l i m 'R e c o r d : T r a c k i n gT g M o d e : P a t t e r nT e m p o : - - - - - - - - -T i m e / A B S ;T i m e : A B SM e t e r : S h r t S l i mN s p A / 1 0N s p B : 1 2 l
