2 Parts of the Porta0281.3 What you need to make recordingsApart from the Porta02 itself, you willneed:• Some kind of stereo masteringrecorder to produce the stereo record-ings. This can be a cassette recordersuch as the TASCAM 102Mk II or anMD recorder such as the TASCAMMD301. A recorder which does nothave recording level controls is notsuitable for use as a master recorder.• You will also need RCA (pin orphono) cables to connect the Porta02to other equipment.• Some monitoring equipment (somekind of amplifier and speaker system).• Headphones, if you intend doing anywork with microphones. These willavoid acoustic feedback (“howl-round”) when recording. Additionally,headphones are sometimes usefulwhen panning tracks on mixdown, asyou can hear the precise position ofeach track.• Of course, you will also need somekind of sound source to record (instru-ment or microphone, etc.).1.4 Connecting the Porta021) Make sure all the equipment isturned off.2) Connect the LINE OUT terminals ofthe Porta02 to the amplifier, usinga pair of terminals on the amplifiersuch as AUX or VIDEO.3) Connect your mastering recorderto a set of four TAPE terminals onthe amplifier (two for REC and twofor PLAY).You may be using an integrated system inwhich the mastering recorder and ampli-fier are built into one enclosure. In thiscase, you do not need to follow step 3.You can listen to the Porta02 by selectingthe amplifier’s input source to be from theterminals to which you connected thePorta02 (AUX or VIDEO, etc.).When you have mixed down and youwant to listen to the mixed tape, youshould select the mastering recorder asthe amplifier’s input source.2 – Parts of the Porta02This section gives an explanation of thedifferent parts of the Porta02, and whatthey do.NOTEDo not use any terminals marked PHONO orintended for record decks.
