39Installation and maintenance manual ecoTEC7.1.2 Safety instructionsImportant:Before starting any maintenance work:• Isolate the mains electricity supply by disconnectingthe plug at the socket outlet (if there is only an isolat-ing switch remove the fuse from the switch).• Turn OFF the gas supply at the gas service valve fittedto the boiler.• When removing any water carrying componentsensure that water is kept away from all electrical com-ponents.• Always use new seals and O–rings when parts arereplaced.• Always test for gas soundness and always carry outfunctional checks after any service work and afterreplacing any gas carrying component.• Always check earth continuity, polarity and resistanceto earth with a multimeter after any service work andafter replacing any electrical component.Danger!Electrocution by touching live parts can befatal! The supply terminals in the appliance switchbox are under voltage even if the main switch isoff.Protect the switch box from spray water. Before working on the appliance, turn off thepower supply and secure against restart!Always perform the following steps after completing anyinspection tasks:• Open the maintenance taps in the heating supply andreturn and in the cold water inlet (only 800 series).• If necessary, refill the device with hot water up to apressure of approx 1.5 bar and evacuate the heatingsystem.• Open the maintenance tap in the gas supply pipe.• Turn on the power supply and the main switch.• Check the appliance for gas and water leaks.• Fill and evacuate the heating system again, if neces-sary.NoteIf it is necessary to keep the main switch on forcertain inspection and maintenance, this is indi-cated in the description of the maintenancetask.NoteThe boiler is fitted with a combustion analysistest point. A suitable combustion analyser canbe connected to this point to establish the com-bustion performance of the boiler. It is not nec-essary to check the CO 2 content or adjust theair ratio of the boiler during the annual service.Checking/adjustment of this value is onlyrequired in the following instances; replacementof gas valve, conversion to or from Natural Gas/LPG or if incorrect combustion is suspected(see Section 9.7).7.1.3 MaintenanceBefore commencing any servicing or maintenance work, carry out an initial inspection of the system as follows:• Inspect the flue, pipework and electrical connectionsfor indications of damage or deterioration.• Inspect the air supply and ventilation arrangements ofthe installation.• Check the heating and water system, in particular thecondition of radiator valves, evidence of leakage fromthe heating system and dripping hot water taps.Inspection and maintenance 7
