39Installation and maintenance instructions ecoTEC plus 0020031552_037 Inspection and maintenance7.1 First inspectionRegular maintenance and service is recommended toensure continued safe and efficient operation of the ap-pliance. The frequency of maintenance and service de-pends upon the individual installation conditions andupon the use the appliance is put to. An inspection mustbe performed once a year.d Danger!It is a legal requirement that all maintenancework be performed by competent personnel(CORGI registered).Inspection and maintenance work which is notcarried out by a competent person can result ininjury and property damage.In order to ensure all the functions of the Vaillant appli-ance over a long period, only genuine Vaillant spareparts may be used when undertaking maintenance, serv-ice and repair work. Any spare parts which might be re-quired are contained in the current Vaillant spare partscatalogues. Further information can be obtained fromVaillant Customer Service Centres.7.1.1 Safety instructionsImportant:Observe the following instructions before starting themaintenance work:• Isolate the appliance from the electrical mains by pull-ing the mains plug out of the socket. (If there is onlyan isolator, the fuse must be removed from theswitch).• Turn OFF the gas supply at the gas isolator valve onthe appliance.• Take care when removing water-carrying componentsthat all electrical components are kept away from thewater.• Always fit new seals and O-rings when replacing com-ponents.• Always carry out a gas tightness test and always carryout a function check after completion of maintenancework or after replacing gas-carrying components.• After all maintenance work and after replacing electri-cal components check the earth continuity, polarityand earth resistance using a multi-meter.e Danger!Electric shock by touching current-conductingparts can be fatal!The electrical mains supply terminals in theelectronics box remain live even when the mainswitch ON/OFF is switched off.Protect the electronics box from water splashes.Before working on the appliance, turn off thepower supply and secure against restart!Always perform the following steps after performingany maintenance work:• Open the stop valves in the heating flow and returnlines and the cold water stop valve.• If required, fill the unit with cold water up to a pres-sure of approx. 1.5 bar and bleed the heating system.• Open the stop valve of the gas supply pipe.• Turn on the power supply and the main switch.• Check the appliance for gas and water leaks.• If necessary, refill and re-bleed the heating system.h NoteIf it is necessary to keep the main ON/OFFswitch on for certain inspection and mainte-nance activities this is indicated in the descrip-tion of the maintenance task.NoteThe appliance is fitted with a combustion anal-ysis test point. A suitable flue gas analyser canbe connected to determine the combustion effi-ciency of the boiler. This check is required dur-ing an annual service (alternative methods aredescribed if no flue gas analyser is available). Acombustion analyser must be used for the fol-lowing circumstances:Replacing the gas valve, converting to or fromnatural gas/LPG or if poor combustion is sus-pected. (see section 9.7).7.1.2 MaintenanceCarry out a first inspection of the system before start-ing maintenance or repair work as follows:• Check the flue system, the pipework and the electricalconnections for signs of damage or wear.• Check the air supply and ventilation of the installation.• Check the heating and water system, especially thecondition of the radiator valves, evidence of leaks inthe heating system and dripping hot water taps.Inspection and maintenance 7
