152 Self-helpChanging wheelsSome model variants have a tyre repair kitinstead of a spare wheel – see page 157.To ensure your safety, make the followingpreparations and observe the followinginformation when changing wheels:z Park the vehicle on a level, firm andnon-slippery surface.z Switch on the hazard warning lights,apply the handbrake, engage first gearor reverse.z Correctly set up the warning triangle.Warning triangle – see page 148.z Remove the spare wheel from beneaththe floor.z Before raising the vehicle, set the frontwheels to the straight-ahead position.z Before raising the vehicle, slacken thewheel bolts half a turn. Do not unscrewthe bolts at this time.z Never change more than one wheel at atime.z Block the wheel diagonally opposite thewheel to be changed by placing wedgeblocks or equivalent in front and behindthe wheel.z Use the jack only to change wheels.z If the ground on which the vehicle isstanding is soft, a solid board (max. 1 cmthick) should be placed under the jack.Using a thicker board could damage thejack and the vehicle.z Upon a wheel change, the taper of eachwheel bolt must be lightly greasedbefore the bolt is tightened. Usecommercially available lubricatinggrease for this purpose. We recommendthat you consult your VauxhallAuthorised Repairer.z No people or animals may be in thevehicle when it is jacked up.z Never crawl under a jacked-up vehicle.z Do not start or run the engine while thevehicle is on the jack.z Tighten the wheel bolts after loweringthe vehicle.
