Frequent driv ing at highrev s causes engine oil consum ption toincrease.Engine oil l ev el chec k,topping up engine oilThe engine oil lev el must be check ed w iththe vehicle horizonta l and with the engine(w hich m ust be at operating temp erature)switched off. Wait at least five minutesbefore checking the level to allow thenormal engine oil accumulation in theengine to d rain back into the oil panIn vehicles w ith engine oil level check 3 , theengine oil level is checked automatically -see p age 27. It is p artic ularly advisable tocheck the engine oil lev el b efore emb arkingon a long journey. .To check the engine oil level, wipe off thedipstick and insert it up to the stop m ark onthe ha ndle. Top up engine oil if the lev elhas fallen to the MIN mark.Eng ine oil should never pass the up perMAX m ark on the d ipstick. Ex cess engineoil must be d ra ined or suctioned out. I f theeng ine oil lev el is abov e the MAX mark,there is a danger of engine or catalyticconverter dam age.The amount filled must be between theMI N and MA X marks – see pag e 209.9 WarningDo not a llow the engine oil lev el to dropbelow the minimum level!9 WarningIt is the owner’ s responsibility to maintainthe correct level of an appropriate qualityoil in the engine.
