265 Connecting to the bus systemVEGAPULS 61 • Foundation Fieldbus41716-EN-1812205 Connecting to the bus system5.1 Preparing the connectionAlways keep in mind the following safety instructions:• Carry out electrical connection by trained, qualified personnelauthorised by the plant operator• If overvoltage surges are expected, overvoltage arresters shouldbe installedWarning:Connect only in the complete absence of line voltage. The instrument requires a operating voltage of 9 … 32 V DC. Operat-ing voltage and the digital bus signal are carried on the same two-wireconnection cable. Power is supplied via the H1 power supply.Connection is carried out with screened cable according to Fieldbusspecification.Use cable with round cross section for instruments with housing andcable gland. To ensure the seal effect of the cable gland (IP protectionrating), find out which cable outer diameter the cable gland is suitablefor.Make sure that the cable used has the required temperature resist-ance and fire safety for max. occurring ambient temperatureUse a cable gland fitting the cable diameter.Make sure that the entire installation is carried out according to theFieldbus specification. In particular, make sure that the bus is termi-nated with suitable terminating resistors.Metric threadsIn the case of instrument housings with metric thread, the cableglands are screwed in at the factory. They are sealed with plasticplugs as transport protection. You have to remove these plugs before electrical connection.NPT threadIn the case of instrument housings with self-sealing NPT threads, it isnot possible to have the cable entries screwed in at the factory. Thefree openings for the cable glands are therefore covered with red dustprotection caps as transport protection.Prior to setup you have to replace these protective caps with ap-proved cable glands or close the openings with suitable blind plugs. On plastic housings, the NPT cable gland or the Conduit steel tubemust be screwed into the threaded insert without grease.Max. torque for all housings, see chapter "Technical data".Make sure that the cable screen and grounding are carried out ac-cording to Fieldbus specification. We recommend to connect thecable screening to ground potential on both ends.Safety instructionsVoltage supplyConnection cableCable glandsCable screening andgrounding
