123 Product descriptionVEGAPULS 63 • Two-wire 4 … 20 mA/HART36511-EN-181127This operating instructions manual applies to the following instrumentversions:• Hardware version from 2.1.0• Software version from 4.5.3The instrument is available in two different electronics versions. Eachversion can be identified via the product code on the type label aswell as on the electronics.• Standard electronics type PS60HK.-• Electronics with increased sensitivity type PS60HS.-The scope of delivery encompasses:• Radar sensor• Disc springs (flange version with encapsulated antenna system)1)• Optional accessory• Documentation– Quick setup guide VEGAPULS 63– Instructions for optional instrument features– Ex-specific "Safety instructions" (with Ex versions)– If necessary, further certificatesInformation:In this operating instructions manual, the optional instrument featuresare described. The respective scope of delivery results from the orderspecification.3.2 Principle of operationThe VEGAPULS 63 is a radar sensor for continuous level measure-ment of aggressive liquids or with hygienic requirements. It is suitablefor applications in storage tanks, process vessels, dosing vessels andreactors. The standard electronics enables the use of instruments in productswith an εr value ≥1.8. The electronics version with increased sensitiv-ity also enables use of the instrument in applications with very poorreflective properties or products with an εr value ≥1.5. The values thatcan actually be reached depend on the measuring conditions and theantenna system i.e. the standpipe or bypass tube. The antenna of the radar sensor emits short radar pulses with aduration of approx. 1 ns. These pulses are reflected by the productand received by the antenna as echoes. The transit time of the radarpulses from emission to reception is proportional to the distance andhence to the level. The determined level is converted into an appropri-ate output signal and outputted as measured value.Scope of this operatinginstructionsVersionsScope of deliveryApplication areaFunctional principle1) Use see chapter "Mounting instructions, sealing to the process"
