Maintenance Instructions46CHECKING/SERVICING/REPLACING/REPAIRINGBlade Brake ActionCheck the function of the cutter blade brake byengaging the blade clutch (PTO), operating theengine at full throttle, then disengaging the clutchand measuring how quickly the blades stop. Watchthe rotation of the blade drive shaft as a visual indi-cation that movement has stopped. If the brake isworking properly, all rotation will stop five (5)seconds after disengagement of the clutch. If thebrake system malfunctions -- blades do not stop infive (5) seconds -- repair the brake before operatingthe mower.REPLACING/REPAIRINGIMPORTANT: ALWAYS use genuine factory re-placement parts. Substitute parts CAN result inproduct malfunction and possible injury to the oper-ator and/or others.Drive BeltsThere are two (2) individual belts on the machine:• Engine/PTO Belt• Ground Drive BeltThe belts may be removed and replaced using theprocedures described on the following pages.WARNINGIt is important to check and maintain bladebrake action for safe operation of the ma-chine.DANGERTo prevent accidental starting of theengine when replacing parts or repairingthe machine, remove the key from theignition switch and disconnect the sparkplug wires.Engine/PTOBeltGround Drive BeltBelt Locations
