Initializing a Firebox using a serial cable42communicate only with the Firebox Trusted interface; while booted from the read-only system area, the Firebox will not pass traffic or perform other normal operations.1 Verify that you can communicate with the Firebox.The Firebox read-only system area configuration image allows the Firebox to respond tonetwork pings. Ping the temporary address assigned to the Trusted interface. If the Firebox doesnot respond to the ping command, you may have a connectivity problem.2 Start the Policy Manager. The null modem cable must be connected from the Consoleport of the Firebox to the COM port on the Management Station.Confirm that the COM port is enabled.Try a different cable or another device (like a modem) to test that the COMport is responding.If these solutions do not work, contact WatchGuard Technical Support.Why is the Flash Disk Management Tool unable to open the COM port on mycomputer?Enable the serial port (COM). The COM port must be enabled for the FlashDisk Management Tool to recognize it.Verify that you do not have two sessions of the Flash Disk Management Toolopen.Do not attempt to use the read-only system area configuration file as abase or template for your working configuration. It will not work. Youmust create a new configuration file using the QuickSetup Wizard oropen an existing configuration file.
