You may be able to temporarilyextend the toner cartridge life. See “Redistributing Toner”on page 5.3. If this does not improve the print quality,install a new toner cartridge.• The paper may not meet paper specifications (forexample, the paper is too moist or too rough). See “PaperSpecifications” on page 7.13.• If the entire page is light, the print resolution setting is toolight or Toner Save Mode is on. Adjust the print resolutionand Toner Save Mode in the printer properties. Seepage 4.16 and 4.8 respectively.• A combination of faded or smeared defects may indicatethat the toner cartridge needs cleaning. See “Cleaning theInside” on page 5.5.Toner specs • The paper may not meet specifications (for example, thepaper is too moist or too rough). See “PaperSpecifications” on page 7.13.• The transfer roller may be dirty. See “Cleaning the Inside”on page 5.5.• The paper path may need cleaning. See “Cleaning theInside” on page 5.5.Dropouts If faded areas, generally rounded, occur randomly on thepage:• A single sheet of paper may be defective. Try reprintingthe job.• The moisture content of the paper is uneven or the paperhas moist spots on its surface. Try a different brand ofpaper. See “Paper Specifications” on page 7.13.• The paper lot is bad. The manufacturing processes cancause some areas to reject toner. Try a different kind orbrand of paper.• The toner cartridge may be defective. See “Verticalrepetitive defects” on the next page.• If these steps do not correct the problems, contact aservice representative.
