31Miscellaneous SettingsFT-65R/FT-65E Advance ManualAutomatic Power-Off (APO) FeatureThe APO feature helps conserve battery life by automatically turning the transceiver offafter a user-defined period of time wherein there has been no key activity. The availableselections for the time before power-off are 0.5 to 12.0 hours in 0.5 hour multiples, aswell as APO Off. The default APO setting is OFF. Use the following procedure to activateAPO:1. Press and hold the F key to enter the Set mode.2. Press the [▲] or [▼] key to select Set Mode Item “1 APO”.3. Press the F key to enable adjustment of this Set Mode Item.4. Press the [▲] or [▼] key to select the desired timeperiod after which the transceiver will automaticallyshut down.5. Press the PTT switch to save the new setting and return to normal operation.When the APO is activated, the “ ” icon will appear at the right side on the LCD. Ifthere is no key button activity within the programmed time interval, the transceiver willautomatically shut down.When the power is on, the APO timer count is reset whenever thetimer setting is changed.Transmitter Time-Out Timer (TOT)The TOT feature limits continuous transmission to a prescribed time between 1 to 30minutes. This will promote battery conservation by not allowing excessively longtransmissions. In the event of a stuck PTT switch (for instance, if the microphone orearpiece is wedged between car seats), the TOT can prevent interference to other usersas well as battery depletion. The default TOT setting is 3 minutes. Use the followingprocedure to activate the timer:1. Press and hold the F key to enter the Set mode.2. Press the [▲] or [▼] key to select Set Mode Item “31 TOT”.3. Press the F key to enable adjustment of this Set Mode Item.4. Press the [▲] or [▼] key to set the Time-Out Timerto the desired “Maximum TX” time (1 to 30 minutes,or OFF). The default setting is 3 minutes.5. Press the PTT switch to save the new setting and return to normal operation.
