PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT6-12610. Start the engine, and then let it idlefor several minutes while checkingit for oil leakage. If oil is leaking, im-mediately turn the engine off andcheck for the cause.TIPAfter the engine is started, the engineoil level warning light should go off if theoil level is sufficient.NOTICEECA10401If the oil level warning light flickersor remains on even if the oil level iscorrect, immediately turn the engineoff and have a Yamaha dealer checkthe vehicle.11. Turn the engine off, wait a few min-utes until the oil settles, and thencheck the oil level and correct it ifnecessary.EAU20070CoolantThe coolant level should be checkedbefore each ride. In addition, the cool-ant must be changed at the intervalsspecified in the periodic maintenanceand lubrication chart.EAU40044To check the coolant level1. Place the vehicle on the center-stand.TIP The coolant level must be checkedon a cold engine since the levelvaries with engine temperature. Make sure that the vehicle is posi-tioned straight up when checkingthe coolant level. A slight tilt to theside can result in an incorrectreading.2. Check the coolant level in the cool-ant reservoir.TIPThe coolant should be between theminimum and maximum level marks.3. If the coolant is at or below theminimum level mark, remove pan-el C to access the coolant reser-voir. (See page 6-7.)4. Remove the coolant reservoir cap,add coolant to the maximum levelmark, and then install the reservoircap. WARNING! Remove onlythe coolant reservoir cap. Neverattempt to remove the radiatorcap when the engine is hot.[EWA15161] NOTICE: If coolant is notavailable, use distilled water orsoft tap water instead.
