EBU02101Engine break-inThere is never a more important period in thelife of your machine than the period betweenzero and 20 hours. For this reason, we ask that you carefully readthe following material. Because the engine isbrand new, you must not put an excessiveload on it for the first several hours of running.During the first 20 hours, the various parts inthe engine wear and polish themselves to thecorrect operating clearances.During this period, prolonged full throttle oper-ation or any condition which might result in ex-cessive engine heating must be avoided. However, momentary (2–3 seconds maxi-mum) full throttle operation under load doesnot harm the engine. Each full throttle acceleration sequenceshould be followed with a substantial rest pe-riod for the engine by cruising at lower r/minso the engine can rid itself of the temporarybuild up of heat. If any abnormality is noticedduring this period, consult a Yamaha dealer.0–10 hours:Avoid continuous operation above half throt-tle. Allow a cooling off period of five to ten min-utes after every hour of operation. Vary thespeed of the machine from time to time. Donot operate it at one set throttle position.EE.book Page 7 Tuesday, March 9, 2004 10:33 AM
