4 MSP5A—Owner’s manual• Do not expose the device to excessive dust or vibrations, or extreme cold or heat(such as in direct sunlight, near a heater) to prevent the possibility of paneldisfiguration or damage to the internal components.• Do not place the device in an unstable position where it might accidentally fallover.• Do not block the vents. This device has ventilation holes at the rear to preventthe internal temperature from rising too high. In particular, do not place it in anypoorly-ventilated location, such as a bookcase or closet.• Do not place the device against a wall or other devices since this can causeinadequate air circulation, and possibly result in the device overheating. Makesure there is adequate space between the device and any surrounding wall orother devices: at least 5 cm at the sides, 10 cm behind and 10 cm above.• Before connecting the device to other devices, turn off the power for all devices.Before turning the power on or off for all devices, set all volume levels tominimum.• Avoid inserting or dropping foreign objects (paper, plastic, metal, etc.) into thebass reflex ports (the two holes on the front of the cabinet). If this happens, turnoff the power immediately and unplug the power cord from the AC outlet. Thenhave the device inspected by qualified Yamaha service personnel.• Do not use the device for a long period of time at a high or uncomfortablevolume level, since this can cause permanent hearing loss. If you experienceany hearing loss or ringing in the ears, consult a physician.• Do not operate the device if the sound is distorting. Prolonged use in thiscondition could cause overheating and result in fire.• Do not rest your weight on the device or place heavy objects on it, and avoid useexcessive force on the buttons, switches or connectors.Always turn the power off when the device is not in use.• Although this speaker system is magnetically shielded, you may need to move itfurther away from a video monitor or display if unnatural color shift or imagedistortion occurs.• The rubber feet included in this package can be attached to the speaker toprevent slippage when it is to be used on a slippery surface.• Air blowing out of the bass reflex ports is normal, and often occurs when thespeaker is handling program material with heavy bass content.* Illustrations in this manual are for explanatory purposes only, and may not match the actual appearance of the product during operation.* Company names and product names used in this Owner’s Manual are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners.ConnectionsHandling cautionXLR-type connectors are wired as follows (IEC60268 standard):pin 1: ground, pin 2: hot (+), and pin 3: cold (–).Yamaha cannot be held responsible for damage caused by improper use ormodifications to the device.Interference From Cell PhonesUsing a cell phone near the speaker system can induce noise.
