Dry the chain and lubricate itto prevent rust.8. Clean the seat with a vinylupholstery cleaner to keep thecover pliable and glossy.9. Automotive-type wax may beapplied to all painted andchrome-plated surfaces. Avoidcombination cleaner-waxes.Many contain abrasives whichmay mar the paint or protec-tive finish. When finished, startthe engine and let it idle forseveral minutes.EAU01107B. STORAGELong term storage (60 days ormore) of your motorcycle willrequire some preventive proce-dures to guard against deteriora-tion. After thoroughly cleaning themotorcycle, prepare for storage asfollows:1. Fill the fuel tank with fuel andadd fuel stabilizer (if available).2. Remove the spark plug, pourabout one tablespoon of SAE10W30 or 20W40 motor oil inthe spark plug hole and rein-stall the spark plug. Turn theengine over several times(ground spark plug lead) tocoat the cylinder wall with oil.EW000127wWhen using the starter motor tocrank the engine, remove thespark plug wires, and ground themto prevent sparking.3. Thoroughly clean and lubricatethe drive chain. (For details,see “Drive chain lubrication”on page 6-23.)4. Lubricate all control cables.5. Block up the frame to raiseboth wheels off the ground.6. Tie a plastic bag over theexhaust pipe outlet to preventmoisture from entering.7. If storing in a humid or salt-airatmosphere, coat all exposedmetal surfaces with a light filmof oil. Do not apply oil to anyrubber parts or the seat cover.8. Remove the battery andcharge it.
