The transmission isproperly lubricated only whenthe engine is running. Inade-quate lubrication may damagethe transmission. Always use the clutch whilechanging gears to avoid damag-ing the engine, transmission,and drive train, which are notdesigned to withstand theshock of forced shifting.EAU16680To start out and accelerate1. Pull the clutch lever to disengagethe clutch.2. Shift the transmission into firstgear. The neutral indicator lightshould go out.3. Open the throttle gradually, and atthe same time, release the clutchlever slowly.4. At the recommended shift pointsshown in the following table, closethe throttle, and at the same time,quickly pull the clutch lever in.5. Shift the transmission into secondgear. (Make sure not to shift thetransmission into the neutral posi-tion.)6. Open the throttle part way andgradually release the clutch lever.7.
