PERIODIC MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT7-227EAU51720Changing the brake fluidHave a Yamaha dealer change thebrake fluid at the intervals specified inthe periodic maintenance and lubrica-tion chart. In addition, have the oil sealsof the master cylinders and calipers aswell as the brake hoses replaced at theintervals listed below or whenever theyare damaged or leaking.● Oil seals: Replace every twoyears.● Brake hoses: Replace every fouryears.EAU22760Drive chain slackThe drive chain slack should bechecked before each ride and adjustedif necessary.EAU41411To check the drive chain slack1. Install the removable sidestandand place the motorcycle on it.TIPWhen checking and adjusting the drivechain slack, there should be no weighton the motorcycle.2. Shift the transmission into the neu-tral position.3. Measure the drive chain slack asshown.4. If the drive chain slack is incorrect,adjust it as follows.EAU41483To adjust the drive chain slackConsult a Yamaha dealer before ad-justing the drive chain slack.1. Loosen the axle nut and the lock-nut on each side of the swingarm.2. To tighten the drive chain, turn thedrive chain slack adjusting bolt oneach side of the swingarm in direc-tion (a). To loosen the drive chain,turn the adjusting bolt on each sideof the swingarm in direction (b),and then push the rear wheel for-ward.
