(4) Checking the Tension of the V-Belt of theAlternatorWhen there is not enough tension in the V-belt, thebelt will slip making it impossible for the alternator togenerate power. Additionally, the fresh water pump willnot work causing the engine to overheat. Check thetension of the V-belt in the following manner.1 Press the V-belt down with your thumb at themiddle of the belt to check the tension. The give inthe V-belt should measure about 8~10 mm at thedepression.2 To adjust the V-belt tension, loosen the set bolt andmove the alternator.3 Replace the belt if it is damaged.• If the V-belt tension is too tight, the beltand the bearings of the alternator will be damaged.• Be careful not to spill any oil on the V-belt as this willlead to stretching and slippage.(5) Inspecting and Replacing Anti-CorrosiveZincInspect and replace the anti-corrosivezinc periodically.1 Close the Kingston cock.2 Drain the cooling seawater. See4.8.12)3 Remove the plug labeled ZINC and indicated inthe diagram. Anti-corrosive zinc is on the followingparts:If replacement of zinc is neglected andoperation is continued with a small volume of anti-corrosive zinc, corrosion of the seawater coolingsystem will occur and water leakage, parts breakageor accidents will result.Maintenace & Inspection541 | MARINE DIESEL ENGINE 6CXM-GTE2>10 mm or lessAnti-corrosivezinc labelPart Parts No QuantityIntercooler 127692-09300 6Engine oil cooler 27210-200370 2Fresh water cooler 27210-200370 4
