15Adjusting Handle HeightYour mower is shipped with the handle in the higherheight position. To lower the handle height, proceed asfollows.• Remove the starter rope from the rope guide.• Remove the upper handle by removing the handknobs and carriage bolts. Lay the upper handle outof the way, being careful not to bend or kink thecables.• Remove the hairpin clips from the weld pins on thehandle brackets. Refer to Figure 5. Press out on thelegs of the lower handle. Remove lower handlefrom the mower.• Turn the lower handle around so the notch on thebottom of the lower handle is facing forward asshown in Figure 16. Reassemble, placing thebottom holes in the handle over the weld pins in thehandle mounting bracket.Figure 16• Reassemble the upper handle to the lower handle.• Place the hairpin clips in the inner holes of the weldpins and attach the starter rope as instructed in theAssembly section.Adjusting Cutting HeightIMPORTANT: All wheels must be placed in the samerelative position. For rough or uneven lawns, move theheight adjustment lever to a higher position. This willhelp stop scalping of the grass.An adjusting plate and thumb lever at each wheelposition provides cutting height adjustment. Eachadjusting plate has nine height positions. Height of cutwill be changed when the thumb lever is moved fromone location to another.• Simply depress the lever towards the wheel andmove the lever assembly to desired position. SeeFigure 17.• For rough or uneven lawns, move the heightadjustment handles to higher cutting heightposition.Figure 17Adjusting CarburetorIf the engine is running rough, minor adjustments to thecarburetor may be required to compensate fordifferences in fuel, temperature, altitude and load.NOTE: A dirty air cleaner may cause an engine to runrough.Make sure that the air cleaner is clean and attached tothe carburetor before deciding to adjust the carburetor.To adjust the carburetor, please follow therecommendations and instructions on carburetoradjustment in the engine manual.WARNING: If any adjustments are made to theengine (e.g. carburetor) while the engine is running,keep clear of all moving parts.
