11• Attach grass catcher following instructions on page8 of this manual. Grass clippings will automaticallycollect in the bag as you run the mower.• Operate the mower till the grass bag is full. Refer topage 9 for description of flow indicator.• Stop engine completely by releasing the bladecontrol handle. Make sure that the unit has come toa complete stop.• Lift discharge door and pull grass bag up and awayfrom the mower to dispose of the grass clippings.Figure 11SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN MOWERCleaning MowerThe underside of the mower deck should be cleanedafter each use to prevent any build-up of grassclippings, leaves, dirt, or other debris. If this debris isallowed to accumulate, it will result in rust andcorrosion.NOTE: We do not recommend the use of pressurewashers or garden hose to clean your unit. These maycause damage to electric components, spindles,pulleys, bearings, or the engine. The use of water willresult in shortened life and reduce serviceability.• Disconnect spark plug wire.• Drain the gasoline from the lawn mower, or place apiece of plastic under the gas cap.• Tip the mower so that it rests on the housing. Keepthe side with the air cleaner facing UP. Hold themower firmly.• Scrape and clean the underside of the deck with asuitable tool. Do NOT spray with water.• Put the mower back on its wheels on the ground. Ifyou had put plastic under the gas cap, make sure toremove it now.Engine CareA list of key maintenance jobs required for goodperformance by the mower is given below. Follow theaccompanying engine manual for detailed list andinstructions.• Change engine oil regularly, as instructed in theengine manual. Check oil level before startingengine every time.• Service foam filter in the air cleaner every 25 hoursof use and replace the paper filter component every100 hours. You may have to service the air filtermore frequently if you are operating the mowerunder extremely dusty conditions.• Clean the engine periodically. Remove dirt anddebris with a cloth or brush.• Clean the spark plug and reset the gap to .030” atleast once a season. Refer to the engine manual forcorrect spark plug type.• Inspect muffler periodically, and replace ifnecessary. Damaged mufflers or spark arresterscan create a fire hazard. Make sure to avoid mufflerand surrounding areas while the mower engine ishot because temperature of these areas of theengine may exceed 150 o F.LubricationWheels• Lubricate the wheels and bearings, if so equipped,at least once a season with light oil or engine oil.Also, if the wheels are removed for any reason,lubricate the surface of the axle bolt and the innersurface of the wheel with light oil.DischargeDoorPull bag up and awayWARNING: Always stop the engine anddisconnect the spark plug wire beforeperforming any maintenance work oradjustments on your lawn mower.WARNING: Never tip the mower more than90 degrees in any directions and do not leavethe mower tipped for any length of time. Oil candrain into the upper part of the engine causinga starting problem.
