English-57STORAGEStorageWinter StorageAt the end of the mowing season, the machine shouldbe readied for storage (or if it will not be in use forlonger than 30 days). fuel allowed to stand for longperiods of time (30 days or more) can leave stickyresidues that can plug the carburetor and disruptengine function.fuel stabilizers are an acceptable option as regards tothe sticky residues that can occur during storage.Add stabilizer to the fuel in the tank or in the storagecontainer. Always use the mixing ratios specified bythe manufacturer of the stabilizer. Run the engine forat least 10 minutes after adding the stabilizer so that itreaches the carburetor. Do not empty the fuel tank andthe carburetor if you have added stabilizerWARNING!Never store an engine withfuel in the tank indoors or inpoorly ventilated spaces wherefuel vapor can come in contactwith open flames, sparks, or apilot light such as in a boiler,hot water tank, clothes drier,etc. Handle the fuel with care.It is very flammable and cancause serious personal injuryand property damage. Drain thefuel into an approved containeroutdoors and far away fromopen flame. Never use gasolinefor cleaning. Use a degreaserand warm water instead.To ready the machine for storage, follow these steps:Thoroughly clean the machine, especially1.under the mower deck. Touch up damageto the paint and spray a thin layer of oil onthe underside of the mower deck to avoidcorrosion.Inspect the machine for worn or damaged2.parts and tighten any nuts or screws that mayhave become loose.Change the engine oil; dispose of properly.3.Empty the fuel tanks or add a fuel stabilizer.4.Start the engine and allow it to run until thecarburetor is drained of fuel or the stabilizerhas reached the carburetor.Remove the spark plug and pour about a5.tablespoon of engine oil into the cylinder.Turn over the engine so that the oil is evenlydistributed and then refit the spark plug.Lubricate all grease zerks, joints, and axles.6.Remove the battery.
