11Typical open loop piping is shown below. Always maintainwater pressure in the heat exchanger by placing watercontrol valves at the outlet of the unit to prevent mineralprecipitation. Use a closed, bladder-type expansion tankto minimize mineral formation due to air exposure. Ensureproper water flow through the unit by checking pressuredrop across the heat exchanger and comparing it to thefigures in pressure drop table in this manual. 1.5-2 gpm offlow per ton of cooling capacity is recommended in openloop applications.Discharge water from the unit is not contaminated in anymanner and can be disposed of in various ways, dependingon local codes, i.e. recharge well, storm sewer, drain field, adjacent stream or pond, etc. Most local codes forbidthe use of sanitary sewer for disposal. Consult your localbuilding and zoning departments to assure compliance inyour area.Figure 7: Open Loop Solenoid Valve Connection OptionTypical slow operating external 24V water solenoid valve(type V100FPT) wiring.Water OutWater InShut Off ValvesBoiler DrainsFor HX FlushingRubber BladderExpansion TankStrainerFlow ControlValveFrom OutdoorPackage UnitTo OutdoorPackage UnitFigure 8: Open System - Groundwater ApplicationOpen Loop Ground Water SystemsNOTE: For open loop/groundwater systems or systemsthat do not contain an antifreeze solution, set SW2-Switch#1 to the “WELL” (30°F) position. (Refer to the DIP SwitchSettings table in the Aurora Control section.) Slow opening/closing solenoid valves (type V100FPT) are recommendedto eliminate water hammer. When equipment is ordered with factory installed ON/OFFwater valve the slow operating water valve will be wiredper Figure 7. DIP SW2-4 (ON) and SW2-5 (OFF) will beconfigured so as to delay compressor and blower ON for90 seconds to allow sufficient time for valve opening.NOTE: SW2-4 should be “ON” and SW2-5 should be “OFF”when using a slow opening (V100FPT) water valve.CRAcc ComACC NCAcc NOCW/YV Valve ABC BoardOrange(29)Blue(30)Black/White(31)AFFINITY SERIES OUTDOOR PACKAGED HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION MANUAL
