13Using the Conventional OvenWhen using this setting, heat comes from both the topand bottom elements. This allows you to cook on asingle level and is particularly suitable for disheswhich require extra base browning such as pizzas, quiches and flans.Gratins, lasagnes and hotpots which require extra topbrowning also cook well in the conventional oven. This form of cooking gives you the opportunity tocook without the fan in operation.+ How to Use theConventional Oven1. Turn the oven function control knob to the requiredcooking function ( ).2. Turn the thermostat control to the required tempe-rature.THINGS TO NOTEl The oven light will come on when the ovenfunction control knob is set.l The thermostat control light will remain on untilthe correct temperature is reached. It will thencycle on and off to show that temperature is beingmaintained. The middle shelf position allows for the best heatdistribution. To increase base browning simply lowerthe shelf position. To increase top browning, raise theshelf position. The material and finish of the baking trays anddishes used will affect base browning. Enamelware, dark, heavy or non-stick utensils increase basebrowning, while oven glassware, shiny aluminium orpolished steel trays reflect the heat away and give lessbase browning.Always place dishes centrally on the shelf to ensureeven browning.Stand dishes on suitably sized baking trays to preventspillage onto the base of the oven and make cleaningeasier.Do not place dishes, tins or baking trays directly onthe oven base as it becomes very hot and damage willoccur. For faster preheating use the fan oven function topreheat the oven until the oven indicator neon goesout, then swich the selector to the conventional ovensetting.Single level cooking gives best results. If you requiremore than one level cooking use the fan ovenfunction.Hints and Tipsi
