2For the user - 3 - EN22 For the userThis chapter describes how to operate the ComfoAir.Congratulations, you are the owner of aComfoAir 200, of Zehnder. We wish you lots of comfort.2.1 GlossaryThe ComfoAir features:• Balanced ventilation;• Heat recovery;• Bypass for free cooling;• Frost protection;• Chimney sweep programme;• 0 - 10V input;• Frost-free element (optional);• Enthalpy (optional).A concise explanation of these concepts/features isgiven in the paragraphs below.2.1.1 Balanced ventilationThe ComfoAir is a balanced ventilation system.Balanced ventilation means that dirty air from thekitchen, the bathroom, the toilet(s) and possibly thestorage room is extracted, while the same amount offresh air is blown into the living room and bedrooms.Gaps under the doors ensure a good through-flowin the dwelling. The air circulation is in balance.Ensure that these gaps are never obstructedby draught excluders or deep-pile carpet, forexample. The system will not function opti-mally.A balanced ventilation system consists of:• ComfoAir 200 (A);• Duct system for the supply of outdoor air (B)and the discharge of indoor air (C);• Supply valves in the living room and bedrooms(D);• Exhaust valves in the kitchen, bathroom, thetoilet and (if present) the storage room (E).BACEDFDDDEE2.1.2 Heat recoveryBesides ensuring a healthy balance between in-coming and outgoing air, the ComfoAir also pro-vides the benefits of heat recovery. Heat recoverymeans that heat from the extracted air is transferredto the fresh, and usually colder, air from outside thebuilding.2.1.3 Bypass for free coolingThe bypass is often used during hot days in thesummer season. By allowing colder outside air inat night, the indoor temperature of the dwelling canbe kept low during hot days. The bypass works au-tomatically. All you have to do is set the requiredcomfort temperature.2.1.4 Frost protectionThe ComfoAir is also fitted with a frost protectiondevice. This is an automatic protective system thattemporarily reduces (or even briefly stops) the sup-ply of outdoor air to the ComfoAir if there is a riskof freezing in the ComfoAir. This can occur in theevent of moderate to sharp frost during the wintermonths.2.1.5 Chimney sweep programmeThe ComfoAir is fitted with an Chimney sweep pro-gramme. The Chimney sweep programme is used inhouses that have a fireplace, as there is a risk of airbeing sucked back from the chimney. The Chimneysweep programme works automatically but requi-res activation by the installer.2.1.6 0-10V inputThe ComfoAir has a single input. This input allows various different types of controlsystem or sensor to be connected. Examples of theoptions include:• CO 2 sensor; regulation using carbon dioxidelevels;• Moisture sensor; regulation using moisture lev-els;2.1.7 Frost-free element (optional)Fitting the optional frost-free element in the Com-foAir gives the added bonus that balanced venti-lation remains intact for longer. In that case, thesupply of cold outside air no longer needs to bereduced (so soon). The frost-free element is (de)ac-tivated automatically.2.1.8 Enthalpy (optional)The ComfoAir can be optionally fitted with an en-thalpy exchanger. An enthalpy exchanger is lesssensitive to freezing. An enthalpy system means theComfoAir uses the frost-free element less, and nolonger reduces the air supply from outside, thoughit does stop it in extreme cold.
