4Introduction and Intended UseVitalSim is designed to be used for realistic medicaltraining within emergency care and nursing. It can beused with different types of manikins to simulate vitalsigns such as breathing, pulse, blood pressure, ECG,heart, lung and bowelsounds.Vocal (spoken sounds)are also generated. The VitalSim base unit performs all simulations andconnects to the manikin. The base unit can be batteryoperated, allowing simulations to be performed any-where.The operator controls the simulations with auser-friendly remote control, communicating with thebase unit through radio frequency (RF) communication.RF communication allows the operator to move freelyaround the scene up to a distance of 10 meters (30 ft.)from the base unit.Included in the system is a PC-based Scenario Builderprogram, allowing the user to preprogram scenarios. These custom built scenarios may then be downloadedand run by VitalSim. Scenarios can control all outputparameters of the VitalSim and make parameterschange based on certain events. The VitalSim will alsogenerate logs that can be uploaded to a PC for reviewand printing.Important InformationThis device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules.Operation is subject to the following two conditions:(1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and(2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired opera-tion.NOTE:This equipment has been tested and found tocomply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pur-suant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are de-signed to provide reasonable protection against harmfulinterference in a residential installation. This equipmentgenerates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energyand, if not installed and used in accordance with the in-structions, may cause harmful interference to radiocommunications. However, there is no guarantee thatinterference will not occur in a particular installation. Ifthis equipment does cause harmful interference to ra-dio or television reception, which can be determined byturning the equipment off and on, the user is encoura-ged to try to correct the interference by one or moreof the following measures:- Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.- Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TVtechnician for help.- Increase the separation between the equipmentand receiver.- Connect the equipment into an outlet ona circuit different from that to which the receiveris connected.- Consult the dealer or an experiencedradio/TV technician for help.Caution: Changes or modifications not expressly ap-proved by Laerdal could void the user's authority tooperate this equipment.Hereby, Laerdal Medical declares that whencarrying the CE-mark, the VitalSim productis in compliance with the essentialrequirements and other relevant provisionsof Directive 1999/5/EC.
