2 USB INSTALLATIONDeciding Which Installation Process to UseThe 3Com® HomeConnect™ cable modem allows you toconnect to the Internet using either the USB port or theEthernet port. Be sure to follow the instructions providedfor the port that you want to use.Using the USB port to connect to the Internet allows you toinstall the cable modem more quickly and easily thanconnecting to the Internet using the Ethernet port, becauseyou do not need to install a network interface card (NIC).USB, however, only allows you to connect one computer tothe cable modem.Using the Ethernet port allows you to use a hub to connectmultiple computers to the cable modem. To do this, youmay need to obtain additional IP addresses from your cableservice provider.CAUTION: You cannot use the USB and Ethernetconnections simultaneously. Therefore, you should nothave the USB cable and the Ethernet cable plugged intothe cable modem at the same time.
