2 SETUP FOR CUSTOMINSTALLATIONThis chapter describes how to set up your Windows 95 orWindows NT PC so that you can use the 3Com Installation Wizardto install and configure a 3C509B NIC.If you are running Windows 95, you must first determine if aPlug and Play BIOS is installed in your PC. See “Performing thePreinstallation Procedure” later in this chapter.If you are running Windows 95 with a Plug and Play PC, you canalso perform an Express installation. See the 3Com EtherLink III ISAQuick Guide for Express installation procedures.If your PC is not running Windows 95 or Windows NT, go toChapter 4.Selecting the Type of InstallationThe two ways to install and configure the NIC using the 3ComInstallation Wizard are Express installation and Custom installation.Express InstallationExpress installation, the installation method that most typicalWindows 95 users choose, is fast and easy and requires onlyminimal user intervention. Refer to the EtherLink III ISA NetworkInterface Card Quick Guide that came with the 3C509B NIC forinformation on how to perform the Express installation.Express installation loads the latest drivers from the EtherDiskdiskette, automatically tests the NIC and your network, anddynamically binds TCP/IP to the NIC.If you do not have a DHCP server on your network, or if you havea static TCP/IP address, you must use the Custom installationoption instead to install and configure the NIC.Express installation is not available to Windows NT users.
