This option is for networkadministrators, MIS departments, and value-added resellers (VARs)who need to automate the installation process. Custom installationalso enables you to save the configuration settings and testoptions that you select during the installation for use infuture installations.Custom installation loads the latest drivers from the EtherDiskdiskette, automatically tests the NIC and your network, andconfigures TCP/IP (dynamic or static address). The Custom optionalso allows you to change configuration settings, disable tests,and save installation settings for future installations.If you are installing the NIC in a Windows 95 PC that does nothave a Plug and Play BIOS installed, you must install the NIC usingthe Custom installation option.Multiple NIC Installationsn For Windows 95—Install and configure each NIC individuallyaccording to the appropriate procedures (Plug and Play ornon–Plug and Play). See Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3.n For Windows NT—Follow the procedure “Installing MultipleNICs in a Windows NT PC” in Chapter 5.Windows 95 SetupThis section describes how to set up your Windows 95environment to install and configure the 3C509B NIC usingthe 3Com Installation Wizard Custom installation option. Thissection includes procedures for PCs with or without a Plug andPlay BIOS.Figure 2-1 provides a graphical overview of the steps required forinstalling and configuring the 3C509B NIC under Windows 95.
