696 Re-apply power to the Gateway, and when the start-up sequencehas completed, browse to:http://192.168.1.1and run the configuration wizard. You may need to restart yourcomputer before you attempt this.7 When the configuration wizard has completed, you mayreconnect your network as it was before.Alert LEDThe Alert LED will flash when the Gateway unit is first poweredup while the system software checks the hardware for properoperation. Once the Gateway has started normal operation, theAlert LED will go out.■ If the Alert LED does not go out following start up, butilluminates continuously, this indicates that the software hasdetected a possible fault with the hardware. If the Alert LED isflashing slowly this indicates a firmware failure. Removepower from the Gateway, wait 10 seconds and then re-applypower. If the Alert LED comes on continuously again, then afault has been detected. Locate the copy of the Gatewaysoftware on the accompanying CD-ROM and upload it to theGateway to see if this clears the fault (refer to “Recoveringfrom Corrupted Software” below). If this does not fix theproblem, contact your supplier for further advice.■ During normal operation, you may notice the Alert LEDlighting briefly from time to time. This indicates that theGateway has detected a hacker attack from the Internet andhas prevented it from harming your network. You need takeno specific action on this, unless you decide that these attacksare happening frequently in which case you may wish todiscuss this with your ISP. The Gateway logs such attacks, andthis information is available through the configuration screens.Recovering from Corrupted SoftwareIf the Alert LED remains permanently on following power-up, it ispossible that the system software has become corrupted. In thiscondition, the Gateway will enter a failsafe state; DHCP isdisabled, and the LAN IP address is set to 192.168.1.1.
