18Locating the UnitThe LF Series chiller is designed for outdoorapplications and mounting at ground level oron a rooftop. It must be placed on a level andsolid foundation that has been prepared tosupport its weight. When installed at groundlevel, a one-piece concrete slab should beused with footings that extend below the frostline. Also with ground level installation, caremust be taken to protect the coil from damagedue to vandalism or other causes. LF Serieschillers are available with factory installedlouvered sheet metal condenser coil guards. The placement relative to the building airintakes and other structures must be carefullyselected. Airflow to and from the chiller mustnot be restricted to prevent a decrease inperformance and efficiency. The installation position must provide at leastsufficient clearance for proper airflow to thecondenser coils. See Table 1 through Table 4for individual unit clearances. When unitsare mounted adjacent to each other, theminimum clearance required between theunits is 6 feetTable 1 - 4-7 & 9 ton Service ClearancesLocation ClearanceLeft 42”Right 36”Compressor End 30”Chiller HXC End 30”Top OpenTable 2 - 8 & 10-13 ton Service ClearancesLocation ClearanceLeft 36”Right 36”Compressor End 30”Chiller HXC End 30”Top OpenTable 3 - 14-17, 22 & 24 ton ServiceClearancesLocation ClearanceLeft 42”Right 36”Compressor End 36”Chiller HXC End 30”Top OpenTable 4 - 21 & 26-55 ton Service ClearancesLocation ClearanceLeft 42”Right 42”Compressor End 36”Chiller HXC End 36”Top OpenUnits should not be installed in an enclosureor pit that is deeper than the height of the unit. When recessed installation is necessary, theclearance to maintain proper airflow is atleast 6 feet.LF Series chillers have a vertical airdischarge. There must be no obstructionabove the equipment. Do not place the unitunder an overhang. For proper unit operation, the immediate areaaround condenser must remain free of debristhat may be drawn in and obstruct airflow inthe condensing section.Consideration must be given to obstructioncaused by snow accumulation when placingthe unit.Water ConnectionConnect the chiller supply and return waterlines. See Table 5 for the LF waterconnection sizes. The water connections areschedule 40 grooved black pipe. Themaximum operating pressure for the AAONLF Series chiller is 125 psi.
