Errors can be caused by external or internal events damaging the IED. Internalsupervision functionality monitors different types of internal errors. These can bedivided to hardware errors, runtime errors in application or operating system andcommunication errors. Further actions always depend on the cause of the errors.Only authorized and skilled personnel should analyze the errors anddecide on further actions.Internal IED errors may be caused by:• Hardware errors• Runtime errors• Communication errorsThe IED records:• IED self-supervision report• Event list• System registrationsDocument all the recorded data from the IED before you reset thetripping and IED lockout functions.5.2.4 Disturbance recording triggeringDisturbance recordings are normally triggered by IED applications when they detectfault events. Disturbance recordings can also be triggered manually or periodically.5.2.5 Disturbance record analysisThe IED collects disturbance records of fault events which are set to trigger thedisturbance recorder. Disturbance data is collected and stored for later viewing andanalysis.
